I have found the 350 Legend with Hornady’s 140 gr. FTX bullets to be a perfect match for each other!

I have 10 boxes of the 140 gr. FTX bullets, and measuring 10 bullets from each box, the bullet diameter from the cannelure forward is .3500 and the shank of the bullet measures .3565…

The 140 gr. FTX in the 350 Legend can be pushed to 2,800 fps. and deliver pin point accuracy out to and in excess of 300 yards!

Is the 140 gr. FTX bullet too light for deer? That strictly depends on bullet placement! Having first hand experience, and knowing the limitations of the 350 Legend with this particular bullet, with a deer standing broadside @ 350 yards, I would have no hesitation about pulling the trigger. Facing towards me - no! Angling away from me - no! Yeah, there is always a chance one MIGHT getting lucky, but I’m not that way. If I am not flat out 100% certain that I can make a clean one-shot-kill, I will NEVER pull the trigger!

Accuracy wise!!! When ALL cases are “match prepped” groups under an inch at 200 yards are easily obtainable. I have shot many “clover leaf” 3-shot groups at 200 yards that had no paper left between the holes - meaning just a single ragged hole…

I found a lot of faults with the 350 Legend when it first came out, and actually I really didn’t like, not even a little bit!

I don’t shoot factory rifles, and could never get excited about any of the offerings available. It wasn’t until I built my first 350 Legend for a customer, and when he started giving me reports on how well the gun was doing for him, I had a change of heart and had to put another one together, just to see what I could do with it. My FRANKENSTEIN creation was BIG (15 pounds) UGLY (kind of) and put together with pieces and parts that I already had on hand. So this is what I had -

Remington 700 short action, set up as a single shot…

Rifle Basix trigger tuned to 14 oz…

Shilen Select Match grade stainless steel barrel / 1.200" diameter / finish length 26"…

Muzzle brake…

Choate Varmint Stock…

Weaver base / Burris Signature Zee Rings / Vortex Viper 6.5X-20X-50mm scope

Winchester brass…

Hornady 140 gr. FTX…

Best load accuracy: 3-shot groups @ 100 yards / .250" or less, with the vast majority of the groups being less!

So where is FRANKENSTEIN now? He went home with someone from the range that had a WHOLE LOT of hundred dollar bills in his pocket!

My impressions of the 450 Legend have totally changed, and even with all of the factory rifles that are available, there are still those out there who would like something better-than-factory, and that’s where I come in!

I build a lot of guns, and a lot of barrels, soon to be going on 36 years, so if there is anything you are interested in, just let me know…
